Organic acid technology is also known as OAT. I’ve been using the “any color” prestone in my car for about two years now, since at least Stage install 20K was installed. It should not be used in conjunction with Mopar because it is NOT the same as Dextercool. However, in general, mopar oat coolant is likely to be compatible with dexcool, but it is always best to consult your vehicle’s owner manual or the coolant manufacturer to be sure. There is no definitive answer to this question as the formulations of these two coolants may vary depending on the manufacturer. Can You Mix Mopar Coolant With Other Coolant? Before adding or changing coolant, check to see if there is an OAT sticker on it to prevent the coolant from mixing and causing gelling. There is no need to add more than 10% of regular coolant to an OAT system you can damage your machine by doing so. Product Summary PEAK’s Original Equipment Technology Antifreeze/ Coolant Orange 50/50 PREDILUTED is a state-of-the-art organic acid technology (OAT) antifreeze that is ideal for North American vehicles. Does the OAT MS-12106 antifreeze discolor like this over time, or did the dealer possibly refill with some non-OAT antfreeze after replacing the radiator? The reservoir also has some discoloration. The cast iron block and head will discolor as a result of the flash rust on them, but they could have used a non-mopar coolant solution, and those are not purple, despite the fact that they may be OAT The coolant at Mopar is reddish in color, while it is slightly purple in color at the same time. The reservoir also appears to be discolored. While Mopar antifreeze is reddish in color, it has a slightly purple tint and a straight purple color. MS-12106 is a unit of measurement used in the Mora Par AAT program. Using the wrong antifreeze in your car can cause serious damage, so it’s important to get it right. If you are unsure about what antifreeze to use in your car, always consult your owner’s manual or a qualified mechanic. This mix will provide the best protection for your engine, and it will also help to keep your coolant system clean. Mopar OAT coolant is a great option for many vehicles, but what antifreeze can you mix with it? The best antifreeze to mix with Mopar OAT coolant is a 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and water. etc. There are many different types of coolant on the market, but finding the right one for your car can be tricky. Its not like my '66 and '69, where there's an iron block, aluminum water pump, bronze heater core and radiator, lead-based solder in the heater core and radiator, composition head gaskets with steel faces, etc. But in recent years, system sealing has gotten quite a bit better and the number of different materials exposed to coolant has been reduced. Coolants have inhibitor packages because the systems AREN'T perfectly sealed, and most engines have at least 2 if not more different metals exposed to the coolant. If you can keep oxygen out and can sufficiently eliminate the dissimilar metal (galvanic corrosion) problem, you could run a sealed system just about indefinitely with pure distilled water (except for the pesky freezing problem). OAT coolants (P-HOAT Honda Type II) have a long rated service interval.Īt some point, the corrosion inhibitors in coolant become fairly irrelevant. Truth is-> 10years-150,000 miles is pretty incredible. They also did a lot of cavitation tests, which is another problem with nitrite-free antifreezes. But they avoided any silicone in gaskets so that 2 EHA shouldn't (I still wouldn't use it!) cause problems like it did when DexCool first appeared. It also said (I'm summarizing) that Chrysler went out of their way to make sure the new systems tolerate other coolant chemistries, although they were very demanding (and different from Fiat) in the spec for the purple OAT so that it can last 10 years/150k miles. This article says that the Chrysler OAT is manufactured by CCI Manufacturing. That would help alot with the narrowing down the most compatible OAT coolant for use. I just wish I could find the maker of Mopar Brand. I just like having a Gallon of the Correct OAT coolant in my garage at all times for top off. My truck only has 600 miles on her.so I hate to drain the new coolant to a brand that I can buy locally for 1/4 of the price.ĭoing alot of reading leaves me to think that the Peak Global Lifetime might be my best choice. Which makes me think I can mix the 2 without issues. It is very similar to Peak Global Lifetime. I did read where this variation of a OAT coolant does not contain the 2-EHA like most Dex-Cool coolants do. By the time I pay shipping to Oklahoma cost is around $40 a gallon. Cheapest is $24.90 a gallon for 50/50 mix.
